Another Miracle
August 19, 2008 at 10:11 am | In Miracles | Leave a CommentLooks plausible. An MRI diagnoses a huge brain tumor, lots of prayer happens, then two days later a second MRI. Tumor is gone. Another MRI (I guess they thought it may have been broken…). Still, no sign of the tumor.
Watch this one with a doubting friend!
Obama: The Entry Level Candidate
August 19, 2008 at 10:08 am | In Obama, Politics | Leave a CommentAs I was reading a transcript of the Saddleback debate (from a blog, to be fair), Obama’s “above my job grade” comment just flew all over me.
I’ve been in HR for 17 years and I cannot imagine a competent hiring manager making a decision to hire a candidate who clearly voices a statement like that. In effect, Obama is admitting that he is unprepared to do the job for which he is “applying”.
It is incomprehensible to me that millions of people aren’t looking at the substance of Obama. I think the Obama camp secretly wants to continue to fan the flames over concerns about him being a muslim, about his wife’s radical beliefs, about his patriotism. We lose emotional energy in these battles. People will just say, “Yeah, but…” and the point you make is tossed in the trash can.
Many Americans will easily accept really bad ideas. We’re guilty of lazy thinking. When we were kids, “Yeah, but…”, was a perfect justification for the acceptance of a bad idea.
We wanted to eat cookies for dinner. Our parents told us that we didn’t get proper nutrition from cookies, but we argued back with, “Yeah, but I like cookies more than broccoli.” Now we’re obese and have diabetes.
We wanted to sit and watch cartoons all day. Our parents told us to go outside and get some fresh air, but we said, “Yeah, but it’s hot outside.” Now the only muscles we see are the ones we see on TV during the Olympics.”
We wanted to have sex outside of marriage. Our parents (and God, the Holy Spirit) told us that it was not right for many reasons, but we said, “Yeah, but no one can stop the power of love.” Now we have a host of sexually transmitted diseases, broken hearts, and relationships that are shallow and unfulfilling.
We wanted to believe that we were basically good, decent people. Our parents (and God) told us that we were miserable, poor, wrteched, and blind, but we said, “Yeah, but I really care about people and don’t want them to suffer.” Now we are redistributing wealth from the people who are not lazy and giving it to those who want cookies for dinner, non-stop entertainment, and freedom from God’s decrees.
Just try to have an intellectual debate with one of these self-centered post-modern people. You can prove to them that gravity exists and their response begins with “Yeah, but…”. If these people vote, then may God have mercy on our nation.
I shouldn’t sound so gloomy here, God is Soverign and His will will be done. In fact, when I think about it a little, I realize that it is quite likely that Obama will ask them to vote for him, and they’ll say, “Yeah, but I’d rather go out for a pizza.”
